"The Answer"

Looking around a room full of job exhibits at a school career day can be overwhelming.  The following outline is a simple, easy to use process to help you decide what career is right for you.  It can be used for any avocation and as many times as necessary.

1- Look around at the various exhibits.

2- Pick up information from those that interest you.

3- Plan a visit to the places that do what you think you're interested in doing to
make sure that the job is what you think it is.

Talk to people that do what you're interested in to verify your interest.
Ask them what they like about the job.
Ask them what they don't like about the job.
Ask them what training is required to do the job.
Ask where to get the training for the job.
                         Ask about the benefits offered.
Ask what the career progression possibilities are.
                         Etc.

Make sure that you ask everything about the job that you want to know.

Have a list of questions to ask so you don't forget any.

Write down the answers so you will have a record.  Your memory will fade.

4- After the visit, review your list of questions and modify/add to it.

5- Decide if you still have an interest in that particular job.

6- If yes:  Ask for a "job shadow" opportunity, or for a part-time job to "try it out."

If no:  Repeat steps 1 - 5 with your next interest.

DON'T:

Finish your education and hope there is a job available, only to find out that the job is not what you thought it was, or that you went to the wrong school to prepare for the job.

NOTE:

You are the only one that can make this choice.  Others can give you leads, but it's your choice, not someone else's!  After all, you will be the person in the job, not the one that tells you: "This is right for you."

GUARANTEE: If you follow the steps above, you will find a job that suits you!
